Dexter Hoover is a pickup truck that serves as the flagman for the Piston Cup Racing series. He is a Pabloloco Compact Pick-Up that is painted blue and yellow, with the word "Official" painted on his hood and the back, along with the Piston Cup logo. He has blue rims and a yellow bumper. His license plate reads A113CA. His model seems to resemble a 1997 Ford F-150.

History

Cars

DexterHooverCars11

Dexter waves a white flag.

In Cars, Dexter is first seen at the Motor Speedway of the South, waving his flags for the racers. He later appears at the Los Angeles International Speedway, waving the flags in the tie-breaker race.

Cars: Fast as Lightning

In Cars: Fast as Lightning, Dexter appears as a non-playable character that serves as the flagman on all 20 of the tracks, waving his flags to begin each race.

Other appearances

Dexter also appeared in the comic, Wash Day.

Official bio

"As a youngster Dex dreamed of being a real race car. A 4-cylinder compact pickup isn't exactly designed for the racetrack, but Dex found a way to put himself in the middle of his favorite sport. He climbed the ranks from selling pennant flags in the stands to top flagman on the circuit. His unorthodox caution flag pattern is a thing of beauty, and if it weren't for Dex, the races would never start -- and they'd never end."[1]

Trivia

  • Dexter's license plate number, A113CA, is a reference to A113, the classroom in which several Pixar animators attended and also very similar to Mater's license plate which is A113.
  • In Cars: Fast as Lightning, when the player passes the finish line, Dexter is waving a green flag, but in race cutscenes that immediately follow, he is waving a checkered flag.
