Maru is a mechanic tug. He is incredibly skilled at refurbishing and making new equipment out of recycled metal. He heavily dislikes Cad Spinner due to Cad's selfishness and little to none budget for the fire fighters.

Meet the Planes

• Maru is the mechanic tug at the Piston Peak Air Attack base. Friendly with a sarcastic sense of humor, he’s been around a long time and has the cluttered hangar to prove it. With no budget for new parts, Maru’s many shelves of old parts and machinery come in quite handy. The repurposing pro’s motto? “It’s better than new!”. This phrase comes from Maru’s ability to craft any fully functional automotive or aerial part from base materials, even custom parts. Maru was able to repair Blade Ranger’s hydraulic system after it was damaged in a forest fire, allowing him to resume work at full functionality within a day. He also crafted a superior custom made gearbox for Dusty Crophopper, to replace his old one which had completely failed after he risked his life to save Harvey and Winnie at the Augerin Canyon fire. This allowed Dusty to fly at high speeds again, thus allowing him to resume racing and firefighting. This was no easy task, as Dottie stated that his gearbox was too complex to be rebuilt by hand.
