In Cars, Ruby is seen with all of the other Piston Cup racers, competing in the final race of the season at the Motor Speedway of the South. He is later involved in the huge 33-car wreck. During the wreck, he hits Eugene Carbureski's rear, causing him to flip over. After the wreck, he is no longer seen racing.
Between the events of Cars and Cars 3, Ruby retired from racing in the Piston Cup and was replaced by Carl Clutchen.
Ruby Oaks is a Crown Celesta race car. He is painted light-blue in the front, on his roof and spoiler and white in the back with a little bit on his sides. The number 51 is painted black with a light-blue outline on his doors, roof, right sticker headlight and left sticker taillight. On his hood, backsides and trunk the Easy Idle logo can been seen along with the slogan "A Warm Start To A Cold Morning" on his hood, trunk and bumper. On his back-window there a three light-blue bars. Like every other Piston Cup racer he uses Lightyear tires and his rim color is black. Above his mouth is a one-piece grille that is colored black.
"Nicknamed "Easy" Oaks for his laid back attitude and his slow, gravelly voice, Ruby Oaks's view of life mirrors his approach to racing. He likes to take it easy, gather his thoughts, get folks to let their guard down and when they least expect it, take the lead."
